SEPTEMBER WINNER: As We Go Live to the Riots by James Mason

Hello Martha. As the police face a seventh night struggling to enforce curfews across Souptown, I’m here in the Chowder district — the epicentre of the violence. These most recent riots were sparked by an altercation between local spoons and members of the minority mug community. Yet again, the populace divides along bipartisan lines. Soup: is it eaten or drank? The city council assures citizens that order has been restored. But, as the conflict continues, ladles are looted and saucepans overturned. Meanwhile, opposition leaders claim unrest is inevitable with the top levels of government controlled by forks. Now, back to the studio.
