Since the Swan Theatre, Worcester opened in 1965 there has been a youth theatre in operation. For over 50 years thousands of young people have trod the boards at the Swan and many of them have gone on to have incredible careers in performing arts, theatre, radio, TV, and film.
In 1967 - 68 the Worcester Repertory Company was formed and started to produce professional, in-house productions that gave an early home to some of the brightest names in performing arts. John Doyle, David Wood OBE, Imelda Staunton CBE, Celia Imrie MBE, Shaun Pertwee, David Harewood, Bonnie Langford, Rufus Norris and many more forged their careers with the Rep. and continue to work in theatre, film, TV and radio all over the globe. A key part of the Rep. has been its link with the Swan Youth Theatre, and many members of the SYT have made their professional debuts with the company.
To mark the 50th Anniversary of the Worcester Repertory Company and to acknowledge the fundamental link with the youth theatre a new company was formed to take a more professional approach to youth theatre productions.
RUFUS NORRIS - PATRON
The Young Rep is delighted to have Rufus Norris as our patron. Rufus is a former member of the Swan Youth Theatre and made his professional debut with the Worcester Repertory Company before going on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
"The City of Worcester would be immeasurably poorer without the Swan, and I among many others am proud to say that it has been the foundation of my artistic life. I look forward to the next 50 years with admiration and humble gratitude, and celebrate the wonderful entity that is the Swan Theatre"

WHAT CAN THE YOUNG REP OFFER YOU?
The Young Rep is about more than just belonging to a youth theatre. As a member of the Young Rep you are a part of the your own theatre company, an important part of the Worcester Rep and its half a century of heritage, and a part of the future of theatre. Each year the young company work alongside our professional staff towards a main-stage production of a major work. This gives members the opportunity to experience a professional performance environment as well as contacts in the industry for the next stage of their careers. Members also receive complimentary tickets to events and productions as well as discounts on a range of products with Worcester Live Charitable Trust.
The Young Rep is not just about performing. Although the majority of our members are actors we also look to work with young people who are interested in costume, production, technical, and stage management. Each department will work with their own schedules and be headed up by a professional member of the Worcester Rep team. You don't have to be a performer to work with the Young Rep, you just have to have a focus and commitment to creating the very best theatre possible.

WOW WOW WOW. Can't get Macbeth out of my head. The best young person's performance I have ever witnessed. Everything about it was spectacular. Could not fault one thing about the production. Well done to everyone involved.
It is the aim of the company to keep the fees as low and as all inclusive as possible. The fees you see quoted here are all inclusive of costumes, tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals and the production as a whole. It is the only fee you'll pay to be a member of the company.
